Set at over 1,100 metres south of the High Atlas, Ouarzazate is the capital of Moroccan cinema. Atlas Studios, opened in 1983, and CLA Studios have hosted productions such as Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Game of Thrones, and the ksar of Aït-Ben-Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the most filmed locations in the country. About four hours away by road over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, Marrakech adds its medina, palm groves, the Agafay stony desert and the Atlas foothills.
We provide a certified pilot, the drone and the flight authorisations to Moroccan and foreign productions. Every flight requires an authorisation from the DAI and, for any filming, from the Centre Cinématographique Marocain (CCM); allow one week to 10 days. Crews coming from abroad avoid importing their own drone, a long process that requires a licence.
Heat, wind and low-angle light shape every desert shoot: we plan flights early in the morning and at the end of the day for stable images. The region is also home to the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex, where we carry out thermal drone inspection on request from operators. See also drone filming across Morocco.
